I’m Vikram, a software engineer in Toronto.

I like understanding how things work, building things, and explaining what I’ve learned. I started this site because writing is one of the ways I figure out what I actually think. I’m particularly interested in software, systems, and that strange gap between understanding something yourself and explaining it to someone else.

Nowadays I spend my time developing and maintaining ecobee’s subscription and energy control platforms. I’m a backend engineer who tends to gravitate toward problems where the system is complicated, the failure modes matter, and there isn’t an obvious answer. I’ve spent a lot of my career working on distributed systems, infrastructure, and reliability, and I really enjoy understanding a system deeply enough to improve the way it works.
